Dog Aid Volunteers in Bali
Dog Aid volunteers made the pilgrimage to Bali in September to check out the Bali Street Dog Sterilisation Programme.
Kel Ferris, Jode Jankevics and Nic Gibbs tagged along with the field clinic, completely in awe at the efficiency and effectiveness of the sterilisation programme. Using giant nets, the skilled and extraordinarily fast dog catchers caught even the most feral of dogs with ease. The dogs were injected with anaesthetic immediately and placed in queue for the sterilisation procedure.
The qualified and extremely skilled Balinese vets worked for over six hours, sterilising dog after dog after dog. Local Balinese people queued up with their family dogs, some wanting their dogs sterilised, others bringing the dogs in for their annual injections.
Our volunteers were brought to tears by the dedication and commitment of the vets, the love that the Balinese people have for their dogs and the obvious and outstanding success of the entire operation.
Sincere thanks to Sherry Grant for her amazing hospitality and a very special and sincere thanks to Dr Yogi, Dr Ade, Dr Erna, Dr Dian, Dewa and Dewagd.
Note: The volunteers funded their own trip to Bali—Dog Aid International funds were not used for this purpose.

Because this lucrative pet shop market exists in Australia, backyard breeders and “puppy farms” who supply to pet shops continue to churn out more and more poor puppies and kittens, much to the detriment of the animals.
